Encom has been in the game awhile but made nothing that has grabbed our attention till now. Meet the New Beast, it’s a pretty evil looking dual parallel 18650 DNA75 mod that feels great in the hand and is pretty much bulletproof.
It’s pretty compact for a dual battery mod, it’s boxy but has the prefect amount of rounding on the edges to make it feel great in the hand without any sharp edges. Sure the branding “BEAST” is large but well etched and looks pretty good with it’s simple font and layout. There are cutouts around the fire button and at the bottom that act as vents but add some nice detail to the design. The finish has a fine powdering coating feel that is very durable, not a single mark after well over a week of heavy use. Buttons feel great and the Evolve board and bright screen work perfectly as to be expected. The fire button lights are on and illuminate slightly through the cutouts around the fire button, it actually looks pretty good.
We are very impressed by the battery life, you will get a solid full day (8hrs+) of heavy vaping on this one. The board is setup pretty well in eScribe and comes with a decent number of wire presets (at this point however, adding your own is pretty easy and many presets are readily available). It seems that dual 18650 DNA75s are the way to go, single battery versions just don’t seem to have a decent battery life (these boards are a lesser version of the DNA200 which was designed for LiPo batteries).
The 510 has an equally evil pentagram etched into it, not really our thing, but it’s covered by an atty most of the time, so who cares. It makes a solid connection with everything we have put on it. The New Beast is a very solid mod, it works flawlessly, the internals are super clean, a nice aluminum plate protects the wiring and chipset, and the battery connection and compartment are perfectly sized. The battery pull strap is the perfect length and has a great textured feel to it. The Battery door has two large and strong magnets that keep it secure, really the only con on the whole mod is the battery door has very slight side to side movement (there is nothing holding it in place other than the magnets), nothing to stop you from considering this one though.
We don’t really know Ecom that well, but this mod is a home run. It works great and is super solid. Maybe the biggest downfall is availability, right now it looks like there are none in North America. If you are looking for a great DNA 75 mod that has great battery life and compact size this is the one, the price isn’t too bad either. It has a very premium feel, easily rivals much higher end mods.
