We are a little late to the party on this one for sure. The Innokin EQ has been on the market a while now, long enough even for a release of 4 new colourways. But that shouldn’t stop us from weigh in on one of the better pod systems on the market. If you want a slightly more open draw with a warmer vape than look no further than the EQ…
Aesthetically there isn’t much going on with the EQ. It has nice rounded edges and isn’t the smallest system on the market but still easily qualifies as pocketable. The Pods insert on top and are held by a circular magnet that also acts as the electrical connection, it works but you can easily pull the pods out (maybe too easy). The included dust cap needs to be pushed off on an angle rather than pulled as that will result in you removing the whole pod and cap (something we aren’t crazy about). And to be honest the cap gets lost in more cases than not. They have started to sell the caps but it would be nice if you got a new one with each replacement pod. The chipset is simple to operated, it’s a fire button style system vs an inhale and that’s just fine. One of the highlights is the boost system that lets you choose from one of two wattage settings (13.5 or 15.5W) and we find the higher of the two results in much better flavour. It’s a solid little setup and comfortable to hold and use, it’s not sexy, in this case function is definitely leading form.
Flavour is very good, it’s up there as one of the best for sure. The coils are definitely a contributing factor. The hit is warm and the vapor production is strong for this segment. The EQ is definitely aimed at the more discerning vapor, sure it’s still Salt Nic focused but the vapor has more volume and satisfaction than a lot of other pod systems out there.
Airflow is more open than many systems too. It’s still an MTL device but bordering right on an open lung hit for sure. It’s just seems to be a more serious device, that sounds odd, but that’s just how it comes across.
The 2ml pods are pricey at $5 a pop. The bottom of the pods twist open to reveal two fill holes making for an easy fill method. We find filling each side works best, the chimney gets in the way a bit to fill from only one side. But the two holes work well at helping air escape to help with fill pressure. One very important not is to not over fill, once you get juice on the fill hole area you will have a bit of a mess to deal with. What seems like leaking is the juice trapped in the twist mechanism and it will seep into the body of the mod. The Plexus mesh coils is what makes all the magic happen. The 0.5 ohm resistance and the even ramp up of the coil is what creates all this great warm tasty vapor for sure. Life is okay, not great, but no worse really than any of the competition.
The Innokin EQ is a must have for the pod system vapor. Sure there are smaller mods on the market, but most offer less flavour, warmth, vapor production, and battery life. There is alot to be said for a 800 mAh battery, especially when most systems are well under 400. Getting a full day of vaping on the EQ is a definite possibility. As we have said, the whole pod system rage gets us a little sad, the move to ease of use, and potent Salt Nic seems to be taking away from the old vape world of more flavour, control and volume of vapor. But the EQ is maybe one of the first systems that meet you somewhere have way. If you want a really satisfying vape… Give one a try.
