Anytime anything comes out of Eden Mods we get seriously stoked. They make some of the best vape products on the planet hands down. And they have been at it for longer than a lot of other companies. The Salix is their first RDA in a long time if not ever now that we think about it. Eden has always been know for their bullet proof incredible line of Rose RTAs. Their is some serious innovation and performance underneath this rather clean and simple looking RDA…
Outside the atty we have the trademark Eden AFC dimples, airflow slot and finish. But inside is where all the action takes place. The design takes into account ease of use and how to condense the chamber for the most flavour production. More than half the area is taken up by an innovative coil lead lamp system. It has staggered height to accommodate counter clockwise spun coils with ease and wide channels to hold claptons or simple round wire builds. Next is two slots to hold your coil jig in perfect alignment to get your build positioned just right. And finally an airflow insert or cartridge system to let you switch out for one of three airflow settings. This all makes the Salix extremely easy to use and very versatile. Plus eden understands it’s all about squonking these days and has created a cutout system in the deck to maximize the juice well and how it fills and empties with each press of your bottle. And of course this is all housed in the finest materials and production tolerances.
Flavour is outstanding. But this is where we have a strong opinion, the Salix is a MTL rda. It shines with the 1.5mm single hole airflow insert. What a draw, silky smooth, the perfect resistance (bordering on a very restricted lung hit), and flavour that blows your mind. Sure you can use the 5x2mm and throw in a clapton, but it’s no where near the magic of what you get in MTL mode. But don’t worry about vapor production, even with the 1.5mm airflow you get luscious thick clouds.
The cartridge or insert airflow system can be a bit of a pain to use, the good news is you aren’t changing it a ton. A tip is to make sure you have the smooth edge on top and insert and take your time. It goes in every time, you just need it perfectly straight. The peek material has held up great in our time with the Salix, so no worries there. But make sure to you the alignment slots to keep the proper distance just to be safe.
Building is a dream thanks to the clamp design. As long as you have your coil spun the right direction (counter-clockwise), your leads sit and clamp down beautifully. The perfect build for us is a simple 24awg, 6-7 wrap, kanthal, 3mm ID, coming in at 0.6 Ohms, run at about 27-30W. And again with the 1.5mm airflow setting. It’s a perfect vape.
The juice well and squonk performance is great. This is a mess free atty. The cutouts in the deck do as intended and direct the juice to the coil and wick leads and then the excess juice returns perfectly to your bottle. There is also just enough of a rise on the squonk pin to pool a bit of juice to extend you vape time between squonks. As usual the Eden team haven’t missed a single thing.
So with all this raving and positive feedback it comes at a cost, and by cost we me literally. The Salix is not cheap. Actually it might be up there as one of the more expensive RDAs on the market. But it’s pretty much perfection. Really we only docked points for the cost, the fact that not everyone will love the exterior styling, and the slight difficulty in changing the airflow inserts. So if you are MTL vaper and have be on a quest to find the perfect MTL RDA. Look no more, the Salix is it. As always we can’t wait to see what Eden does next. Thanks to our friends at Hazetown Vapes for generously sending us the Salix for review, check them out, they are killer shop that care about flavour (they also make some awesome juice).
