We don’t review SubTanks all to often for a couple reasons, usually the flavour isn’t nearly as good as rebuildable attys and the cost and longevity of the disposable coils turns us off. But now and again there is a SubTank that is just too good to ignore. The FreeMax FireLuke Mesh is one for sure…
Aesthetically it has a mean industrial flair with grid pattern that is not only functional (giving grip) but sets the FireLuke Mesh apart from the competition. FreeMax was able to keep the height down by using the coil to double as the chimney section and overall chamber. There is a con here and the only real serious one, sometimes when removing the tank from a mod the center section releases instead of the base which could lead to a juice spill if you don’t catch it. Once you are aware to this you will get used to only using the base to remove the tank. The Drip Tip is low profile and continues the dope grid pattern but some will not like the feel of this pattern on the lips. The FireLuke comes in a ton of colourways and it’s even possible to purchase coils that match to keep a really unified look. The big story here though is the mesh coils. Wow amazing flavour all through the recommended wattage range (40-90W), we like it on the lower end of the range. The coils last longer than most we have ever used, easily lasting more than a week with multiple juice changes. The only thing is the coils are really low resistance (0.15 ohms), so keep this in mind for the mod you may use the tank with (you want some power).
Flavour is impressive. Coils break in about half way through your first tank and the flavour just pops. This can be a very cloudy tank, but the amount of flavour is outstanding. Also when you consider the openness of the airflow and the wide 810 drip tip (the tank will take most of your favourite aftermarket 810s too). We like the AFC open 1/2 way for rich flavour and a warmth that isn’t too nuts. This is not a stealthy vape by any means, so if you are planning a night out you may want to consider something else. But if you want to sit around and get some serious hauls, the FireLuke won’t let you down. Airflow is on the loud side, another thing to consider.
Juice capacity is 3ml and it goes quick. The good news is the top fill works perfectly and easily. We haven’t had a single leak or flood on fill. There is a ton of cotton around that mesh coil which has to contribute to the longevity, flavour, and liquid seal. You will however be filling this puppy a lot. In an average night of hanging out, we filled it three times (9ml!). So the FireLuke goes through juice like crazy, but it tastes so good.
The FireLuke is a powerful SubTank that isn’t ridiculously large and has a more sophisticated aesthetic for those of us that want something more mature and visually appealing compared to what else is out on the market. Mesh coils aren’t a new concept but FreeMax seems to be killing it with their approach. Even as we write this they are producing a new model of the FireLuke that has dual and triple mesh coils. But it has lost the aesthetic of this one (it’s ugly in our opinion). We mentioned we are never big fans of disposable coils and SubTanks but we have to make an exception here. The FireLuke is just plain flavour fire!
