The EVL Reaper… It’s one hard to get mouth-to-lung RTA. It’s made out of Titanium and has a simple, yet beautiful aesthetic. Let’s find out if it lives up to all the hype…
It’s a clean tank, maybe a little tall, but super clean looking with some of the classiest branding on any tank. The design is getting a little dated, it has been out for over 7 months and it’s showing its age. The fill method and the size of the juice channels are some of the pain points. It’s the old school, tank off and fill to the top of the chimney method, it works pretty good, and an o-ring on the vapor chamber keeps that section intact when unscrewing the tank section to refill. The other little issue is the juice ports, they are tiny, really designed for 50/50 liquid, so if you dig your MaxVG juices you may need to pass on this one (You may be able to squeak by with 70/30). This is by all accounts an MTL tank, there is no sneaking a restricted lung hit on this one, but it’s a great hit.
Flavour is very good and the vapor is nice and dense as well. It’s a pleasure to vape if you have it setup right. The ratios are all dialled in. This tank may actually edge out the Hurricane for the title of best MTL tank. It’s so simple, and works so well. There is a very satisfying muted crackle sound on each inhale, must be an echo in the chamber, so nice.
Airflow is tight, it’a an MTL, it has AFC in the form of 2 adjustment screws accessible from the bottom of the atty. We leave them wide open (you could remove the screws all together, and get a tiny bit wider, but not needed) and it’s right no the boarder of a restricted lung hit. It’s pretty quiet, a very slight little whistle that is easy to live with.
The Build is super easy thanks to the very accessible 2 post deck. A simple 2mm, 7 wrap, 27awg (love the odd sizes) single coil coming in at 0.75 Ohms and run at 22W is pure flavour town. It’s a pleasant dense vape, with a touch of warmth that is nice to have in a MTL tank. It produces a decent amount of vapor for an MTL, surprising really, and like we have said, dense!
Wicking is easy but has an important step, you need to fill the chamber to avoid leaking. This is best accomplished with a simple M method similar to what you do with a Hurricane. Cut your wick leads long enough for them to be able to fold in on themselves and fan them out and place them resting on the ledge above the juice channels, that’s it. Be careful to make sure that the fold ends are long enough to interfere with the airflow inlet under your coil. We love raised inlets, they just keep things smooth and leak/condensation free.
Juice Capacity isn’t great for how high the tank is, but the Reaper is pretty economical with juice consumption so you get a good amount of vape time between fills. We wish there was a better fill method, the fact that the tank is only held into the top cap by an o-ring makes you nervous on every refill (it works though).
The Reaper is a dope atty, there is no denying its place in the vape world. It definitely deserves a solid place in the top 3 MTL tanks right now. We have this one on loan for this review and we are seriously contemplating keeping it. We aren’t big MTLers but it’s so good we don’t care. If you can get your hands on one, you should. You’ll love it.
top 3 MTL tank?…the rest of the two??
Hey Law,
Well, seeing as you asked… The E-Phoenix Hurricane 1.2 or 1.3, and the Kayfun Mini v3 or Kayfun v5 (although pretty open for MTL, new AFC coming…). Oh and the Pico is pretty good too.
Just in case you didn’t realise, the reaper has a juice flow control by turning the tank section. Once you have the v in evl lined up with the air holes it wicks very fast if you have cotton in the channels. For me it wicks the best with 5 wraps of 25awg 2.5mm coil and cotton in the channels.
Oh by the way love the site, some great reviews.
Hey Ray,
Thanks for the knowledge. And thanks for the kind words.
