What to say about the Soul… Van & Del are no strangers to the vape scene and have produced some great attys in the past. The Soul S is a work of art, clean, simple, and performs better than expected, think of it as a sleeper RDA.
Aesthetically is is very clean. Looks a lot like the TJT Nipple RDA but maybe only on the outside. Inside is a whole new ball of vapey goodness. A 6 clamp deck similar to the Pancake RDA gives plenty of options to make building a treat. The Airflow design is that ever popular and true dual airflow inlets on a single coil. The juice well is deep enough and the Soul S excels as a squonker or BF atty. It’s got a nice tell for juice squonking levels with juice peeking out the AFC to let you know you are good for another session of glorious flavour. The brushed almost matte finish lends for a very industrial and understated look. By now it should be clear this atty is a fav of ours. O-ring tolerances, fit & finish, materials, everything is at the standards it should be for an atty demanding a higher price.
Flavour, oh shit, so good. It does depend a lot on the build and we’ll get to that, but when it’s right it’s so right. Full, every nuance present from your juices, dense, rich, perfect. The inner cap has a slight dome but there is something interesting going on in there. The chimney section protrudes down into the chamber creating a half donut effect, like a double top bevel kind of thing, there is something too this for sure.
Airflow like we stated is that tried and tested formula that was introduced by NarMods with the NarDA and is quickly becoming the industry norm, single coil with dual airflow hitting both sides of the coil. What’s different here is the length of the airflow inlets, they are about double the standard. This allows for some lengthy builds or what is the real magic to this atty, dual side by side coils.
We sort of let the cat out of the bag, there is only one build for this atty in our opinion and it’s a dual coil build. The 6 clamp deck design allows you to place coils in a number of ways and makes it easy to place to coils side by side. The benefit here is you can have a wire lead from each coil use the same terminal which shortens the circuit and acts almost like a parallel build/coil. Why not just use a long, big coil instead you may ask? Two coils give to heating cores, and this is just plain better in this atty (more intense flavour). The point is to fill the entire length of the airflow with coil and this dual method does it easily and with a nice heat intensity. Wick right through the center of both coils with one wick and sit your wick leads on the deck. We like a dual, 3mm ID, 5 wrap, 24 awg, spaced build coming in around 0.2-0.25 Ohms and run it on a mech squonker for an incredible vape experience. The top cap doesn’t seem to have heating issues either thanks to the reduced chamber inside.
The juice well is decent, guessing you could get a good 10-15 drips but we can’t really verify that cause we squonk the hell out of this atty. It might just be one of the best BF attys of the year. The squonk is responsive and tidy. This is a solid very well made atty.
For an atty that we hummed and hawed over, it really surprised us. Sometimes the simpler the better and in the case of the Soul S that is more than true. Sure it’s pricey, but the quality, performance, easy of use, and simplicity of design make this worth every penny. Get your hands on one, treat yourself. If you are into mech squonkers this is an atty you need in your collection. Wow, what an atty. Oh, and damn do Hellfire Whistle Tips look great on it.
Hello Ryan.
What would you choose between this amd o-atty? And bettween the two with armor rda?
Thank You
It’s all about the Armor and the Soul for me. Both. Could live without either. Hard to separate one from the other.
So, do you think among m-atty, narda, drifter, o-atty, hadaly and many others you prefer souls and armor? and both are in your rotation?
Actually I want to have both after read your review, but it’s hard to join the armor fb group.
Maybe i will take souls for now.
Thank you Ryan.
Hi Ryan,
I just got myself this Soul s RDA. So excited, sadly the excitement didn’t last long. I don’t know why, I got a bad metallic taste from it. Horrible, I must say. And I have tried rebuilt and rewicked it like 3 times and every single time I tried cleaning it with soap and toothbrush, hoping that it would clean some of the residue or metallic crumbs (don’t know the exact terms since English isn’t my first language) that came when I first opened the packaging. (Oh yes, I got some small metallic crumbs looking objects inside the plastic, like it’s some kind of cookie crumbs I must say.
Anyways, I tried using single coil Alien Clapton Ni80, Fused Clapton Ni80 and another Alien Clapton Ni80 from a different brand. Ohms from .15, .26, and .18.
So was it a faulty RDA that I got, or I haven’t cleaned it enough or I Built and wicked it the wrong way? Because I’ve done my build a lot of times and never got this issue. The funky taste just felt like only a few several first hits before the cotton broke in. But this metallic taste is like there to stay… XD
Help, please
Have an awesome day! :))
Oh sorry the second coil, the Fused Clapton is SS. Don’t know if this info’d help. 🙂
Hey Aga,
A nice simple build of 5 wrap, 2.5mm, 24 awg, kanthal does a great job in the Soul S. Give that a try. Also try soaking your atty both the deck and cap in Vodka for a bit and they a nice soap bath and rinse. Hope this helps.
