Asmodus killed it with the first couple versions of the Minikin, it was extremely popular. There was some trouble with a clone of the original and rather than get overly pissed they came up with this, the Minikin v2. This is a whole different ball game…
The form factor is a complete departure from the original, it’s hard to say if they had this shape first or Wismec with their Reuleaux 2/3. One thing for sure, this mod is much more comfortable in the hand than the Wismec. The Minikin v2 is by no way a tiny mod, but it’s not big either. The shape is very ergonomic and has a natural feel thanks to the curved almost tear dropped silhouette. The way it’s gripped in the hand is very satisfying. The overall aesthetic is very clean, tastefully branded. The touchscreen interface is game changing, although a little finicky at times (the swipe down lock needs pretty serious intention to unlock). The fact that they have crammed in two 18650s is amazing, the battery door is perfect in fit and stays very secure (strong magnets). There is zero rattle of any kind, the mod feels very high quality, especially for the price. The finish is pretty durable and has a great feel to it. The button is nice, works well and great to fire with the lower part of your thumb (by the joint) while gripping. We just wish there was a more satisfying click to it. This is a beautiful mod, unique shape, with interesting lines and awesome colorways.
Chipset is custom, goes up to 180W, firmware upgradable (a new version was recently released), and has a ton of features. Temp Control works pretty well, we have had good success with SS316L builds. There are TCR and TFR modes that work pretty well (the latest firmware addresses some issues with these). We have no major complaints with the overall function, power delivery is smooth and accurate. The interface is pretty straight forward and does it’s job, we like the simpleness of it, just wish the typography and overall design was a bit more in tune with the style and design of the mod (feels a bit too utilitarian).
Battery Life is impressive. The chipset is pretty efficient, full day of vaping is very possible. The dual battery monitors are a must have on all new dual battery mods, great for monitoring battery health. The tray is easy to load and works with all 18650s.
The Fit & Finish feels very premium for this price point. The Colorways are creative and there is easily a colour you will love. The finish holds up really well, it has a velvety or satin feel and has a sort of luminescence to it. We dig the purple big time. We have used ours pretty heavily for a couple months and have very little wear to show for it, maybe a couple very tiny nicks. The 510 could have a bit more protection so atty ring isn’t a concern, but we have yet to have any signs of any. The Minikin v2 can accommodate up to 24-25mm attys and still look great.
The Minikin v2 is an no brainer, lots of power, great form factor, and dope aesthetics. Asmodus as definitely improved on the original. It’s a mod everyone needs to try. It’s not amazing but it is very good for the money, think of it as a great everyday mod you can carrying around without a worry. This is great design thinking, Asmodus has recently being spending a lot of time and effort in the stab wood game, maybe they should consider some more time spent with this kind of product and thinking. We would love to see the follow up to this…
