Meet the 13Mech, made in Malaysia by Thir13en Modz, known for some pretty amazing high end stab wood mods and more recently Billet Box panels. It’s most likely the first all billet aluminum mech squonker and boy oh boy is she small. There is a lot going on inside, lets get into it.
Aesthetically the 13mech has a pretty original silhouette, curved for comfort and angular in other spots to give it an industrial, almost military like appearance. Has a real stealth bomber kinda thing going on. The Aluminum is bead finished and anodized making it have a nice grip and a rather durable finish.
The Door tolerance is one of the best in the mech squonk category with very little play if any (we have had two magnets come loose, a quick spot of instant glue did the trick). It’s another front facing squonking action making it ambidextrous and easy as hell to squonk. The included Cappy V4 RS bottle is a nice touch and good value (not cheap).
There is a magnetic door on the bottom of the mod to access your squonk bottle but if you are really getting into squonking grab a refill bottle, makes your life so much easier. There is a safety lock for the firing button, we had trouble with ours blocking our firing switch and really effecting the conductivity so we removed it and wow what a difference (you will also now have greater ability to adjust the firing plate on the 510 to change your fire button throw).
Inside the modder has done some great heat wrap treatments to the connection points for added safety. It’s a tight little package with some great design thinking. The channel for the squonk bottle is perfect, the battery fits in easily and is held securely. There is 6 door magnets to keep the door extremely secure.
It’s a little busy on the outside, a nice tasteful embossed logo on one side perfectly placed, but then a second silk screened large skull on the door feels like over kill (and wasn’t advertised when we secured one, might have changed our decision to grab one). And then there are cutouts on the bottom that act as venting and make sense, but they are mirrored on the top and do nothing other than collect juice condensation and pocket lint (bitch to clean and keep it that way). But these are subjective qualms and you may completely disagree, comes down to personal taste (and OCD level).
We had a little bit of trouble getting the 13mech to fire thanks to the safety switch, but, and a big but, once removed this is a very hard hitting mech squonker. Maybe it’s the aluminum body, or the shrink/heat wrap, or the all silver contacts, whatever it is she fires quick and hard (very low voltage drop). If we could score an 11 we would. It also feels like you squeeze just a little more out of your batteries thanks to this efficiency.
Squonking is very nice, any time you have a super soft, supple silicone bottle it’s good. We like thumb squonking the 13mech, the curve in the back in comfortable on the fingers.
The Thir13en Modz 13mech isn’t cheap, and may be hard to get (Facebook lists only), but if get your hands on one it will grow on you. There is a weight to it, a solid feel that most of the 3D printed plastic squonkers just don’t have. And yes it ‘hits hard’. There are 7 different colours to choose from and all of them are very tasteful (Black, Gun Metal, Bronze, Brown, Blue, Green, and Red). We have fallen for this mech squonking world and you should too, so small & simple and able to give a very satisfying vape. Add the 13 mech to the list.
