The dotSquonk 100W squonk mod by dotMod is a seriously tight package in more ways than one. The quality, design, packaging, hand feel, and price make this a mod that belongs more in the high end world rather than the mass market.

Everything about this mod screams well thought out design and premium materials. It’s no wonder there is a bit of a cult following growing for this mod, there is even a facebook group (dotLounge) that sells custom doors and showcases custom finishes fans have been doing (we think the group might be run by dotMod, but who cares). Custom doors are put on the group for $40 every once an awhile.

But this isn’t the point. The mod comes in 4 colours (Black, Blue, Yellow/Gold & Red) that should satisfy everyone. You can pop on the dotMod dotRDA Single Coil in a matching colour to go all out. We only wish there was an option to get the mod with silver buttons and branding. But then again, dotMod has always been about the Gold. You get an awesome package with and 18650 adapter, a white and body colour squonk bottle a cool micro/lightening cable, and a serial/authenticity card. dotMod is definitely taking a page out of the high end market delivery style.

The adjustment buttons are hidden behind a magnetic panel which keeps things looking clean and minimal. There is one flaw here, the adjustment buttons don’t wake the device from sleep and you will need to hit the fire button to wake the mod before you can make any adjustments. It’s a big usability oversight in our opinion, but you get used to it. The hits of branding, the quality of the battery sled, the door tolerances, are all impeccable. Again making this feel like a high end unit.

One other issue we have is the diameter of the squonking tube in the bottles, it’s much smaller than the norm and makes filling with a 510 squonk fill bottle not possible. You need to take the bottle out each time to fill, and you can only use the dotMod bottles (you can purchase more separately however, that also look to be a slightly different design that might solve the small tube issue).

The Chipset works great, the display screen is nice and bright with high contrast. We love that there is the ability to change the screen colour to match the body colour you choose and more (8 Theme in total). Temp control fans have all the options they could ever want. It seems to be an efficient chip too, a good 21700 or 20700 lasts more than a day in the 50W range. The box never feels warm to the touch and fires rapidly on demand.

Fit & Finish like we mentioned earlier is extremely impressive for a mass produced unit. dotMod has seriously upped their game as of late with some seriously amazing products (they had a dip in quality for a bit, but they are back full force). The etching on the fire button is seriously impressive and the button action has a nice amount of click. The doors fit so perfect and the magnets hold just the right amount to keep them secure but make them a breeze to remove (nice divots on the bottom of the mod help a ton).

The spring loaded 510 is a tad deep and we have had a couple issues with short 510 attys making connection. Also the 510 has an elevated lip that is most likely to save the finish on the top of the mod, but this makes your attys sit about 0.5-1mm above the surface of the mod (has to be noted). But the threads are smooth and when the connection is made it works well.

The Squonking action with the stock bottles (maybe the replacements are different based on a slightly different design) is a tad tight. Make sure to trim the length of the interior tube so it just touch the bottom on a angle as it should to help with vacuum issues. Even with the right length, the size of inner tube diameter isn’t ideal, a larger tube would make a world of difference in the squonking action. You will get juice to your atty no problem, it just may not evacuate excess as well as other squonkers you own or have used. It’s not bad enough to be a deal breaker, but we are having a hard time understanding the decision when everything else about the design is stellar.

At the price point this is a steal of a deal. For someone who has wanted the high end experience and never had the money or not wanted to spend that kind of money, the dotSquonk is the perfect option. Everything about this mod will make ownership feel truly special. And it will hold up, we have used ours heavily and the finish seems to be very durable. This is one squonk mod that will be hard to beat. Wow, nice job dotMod!
