The Laan from Shanlaan was an interesting experiment that we think has gone wrong. The product itself is rather interesting, it most likely failed for two reasons, one, lack of marketing and availability, and two, the pods need work. That said the products out of this company were close to what Apple might make if they got into vape products.
The design language is sophisticated and extremely thought out. Every detail has been considered. The Leather wrapped grip area, the hidden push-flip charge port, the twist open top, the sealing gaskets, the list goes on. This all aluminum body, wrapped in leather vape is truly luxurious in the hand. Even the way the pods simply pop into place and a final twist of the top is all you need to get going. It’s industrial design on a different level than most vape companies consider. The packaging is on par if not better than what you would expect from an Apple product as well. So where is the issue? We will get into it. The first is a weird electronic whine when the vape activates (draw based. no fire button), it’s a little odd.
Next it’s the flavour, it’s not amazing, which it needs to be to live up to the design. The vapor production is quite impressive however. Airflow is fixed, but is a nice restricted lung hit that boarders on a loss MTL. The problem here is there is something up with the ceramic wick system, it does best with 60/40 or even higher PG ratio juices, thicker juice just doesn’t wick fast enough. This was a major flaw in the thinking, and a common one, the North American market likes their high VG juice yet the rest of the world is still in the 50/50 and even 40/60 space still. Designing coils/pods without thinking about different juice viscosity is just plain dumb and an oversight that most likely cost the success of this device.
We love the talent and the design thinking… If only they had launched the product correctly and with enough availability, and with a pod that could handle some higher VG juice. It was also pricey at launch, around $100 USD, you can get them now for around $60 which is a better price point for sure. There is an app for android that allows for some functionality with the mod, not sure what, there is little info (and we searched for an iPhone version with no success). Listen, if the design speaks to you and you like to vape nic salts or higher PG juice this mod might be worth a serious look. It is definitely a classy AF little set up.
Nice!
