It’s Clearos like this that make you think about throwing all your Rebuildables and Build gear out the window and enjoying Tank Life forever! We have never been fans of Clearos due to the cost of replacement coils, the shitty lifespan they usually have, and okay Flavour that you could blow away with a standard RDA or well built RTA. Well it seems like all that’s changing lately and the Uwell Crown is our first look into these new and improved Sub Ohm Clearomizers.
Holly crap the flavour on this one is unbelievable! It has to be some of the best flavour out of a tank we have ever had! We haven’t had a single dry hit in the time we have been testing it, the coils have 4 rather large wicking holes that can keep up with MaxVG juices very well. This tank likes to be above 50W so if you don’t have a mod with some power (at least 75W) you may want to pass on this one till you do. It’s a warm vape nothing too crazy unless you really amp the power, the one con which is easily remedied is the standard drip tip tends to heat up quite a bit, change it for something with a bit more insulation and your good. Also looks a lot better with a shorter tip, the stand tip is huge! You will notice even better flavour with a drip tip that is a smaller bore than the standard as well.
Airflow is pretty wide but you can easily restrict it to get a more flavourful vape. We found running it half open works best. The ball bearing style click AFC is very nice to use and is silly smooth. The overall airflow on this puppy is butter smooth, it’s well designed, not too loud and no whistling of any kind at any setting. This atty chucks pretty large clouds, it’s more of an outdoor vape for sure.
Filling is a breeze! The threading on this atty is superb, butter smooth and the knurling on the disassembly rings and AFC work perfectly. We top fill this one and without a single leak. When top fill works it’s a dream, you can fill and be vaping again in secs. It’s a good thing they made filling so easy, cause you will be filling it a lot, like all high powered sub ohm tanks, she drinks the juice!
Coils, Coils, Coils! Uwell has done a great job packing the Crown with lots of spares and a second tank (Quartz Glass, super nice), but it’s the 3 coil heads in 3 resistances that is really dope. You get a 0.25, 0.5 in stainless steel and a 0.15 in nickel. All these coils perform very well. The 0.25 likes to be run from 65-80W and is a rich very flavourful warm vape. The 0.5 is a less intense and less flavourful vape, it’s not bad, actually still pretty good but when compared to the 0.25 it’s not nearly on the same level. Stainless coils are pretty new and some Mods will run temp control with them. We found on the Sigelei 75W TC we can run the 0.5 in temp mode at 500F and 50W and get a much better vape out of it. Please play with temp control with these coils with caution, we really don’t know a lot about working with stainless coils but it does seem to work quite well (we have been vaping it like this for a couple of days with no issues). The big question we had, how long will these coils last? At $5 a pop they should last a while and a lot of other reviews stated they last weeks if not months! Well we don’t know how they vape but we are pretty heavy vapers and we found that the 0.25 coil only last about 3 days with a MaxVG juice that was on the sweet side running it at about 70W. This could be partially due to using it with the SnowWolf, it has trouble with the stainless coils, it flips between temp and power mode quite a bit, we suggest you don’t use this tank with it (it probably fouled the coil early due to this). The 0.5 ohm coil is on day 3 and seems to be holding up, this may be that we are running it in temp mode. The 0.15 nickel coil is awesome when you can get it performing right. It suffers from all the same problems other nickel coils do, sometimes it hits hard and tastes very good and other times it has super muted flavour. The 0.25 ohm coil is where it’s at for flavour and performance in our opinion.
If we get our hands on the RBA section we will add an update, but to be honest this one seems designed for disposable coil heads. Sure it will work but you won’t enjoy the same performance as you get from the Uwell coils.
So in the end we still feel that Tank Life while a lot less hassle than building is still a more expensive way to vape. Until coil heads can last a least a couple weeks of heavy vaping we will keep building. For the Flavourchaser there is nothing like be able to dry burn and change your cotton everyday to maintain optimal flavour. No matter what you do with tanks your flavour will begin to deteriorate as the coil begins to foul and there is nothing you can do other than change the coil head (at 5 bucks a pop). But that said this is hands down the best flavour out of a tank we have ever had! It’s an awesome vape with a nice juice capacity that won’t let you down. If you are into Tank Life than you need to change up your gear and grab one of these babies pronto!
