At first pass it looks like Steam Crave’s kick ass RDTA, but it’s not. It’s their new Clearomizer the Aromamizer OCC Tank (Organic Cottom Coils) and it’s a step in the right direction for those who don’t want to build their own coils.
The design is very similar to the RDTA, same basic premise of a tank that feeds the bottom of the coils while still allowing direct airflow to the coils like a dripper. The big difference here is it takes disposable coil heads. There is a rather large flaw or oversight here though, the coils are too low and the airflow hits just the top of the coils as opposed to pass through them. This is a problem, you’re not going to get all the flavour you can with a set up like this. And to be frank, we don’t understand how this was overlooked.
The Flavour is decent but could be so much better if the airflow passed throw the coils. It’s hard to believe that the same company that made the absolutely awesome RDTA of the same design could make this error. There is almost half the coil not being hit by the airflow, so you could argue the flavour is only half as good as it could be.
The coils come in either a 0.3 Ohm Dual Kanthal or a 0.15 Ohm Singe Ni200. We only received the kanthal for review so we don’t know how it performs in Temp Mode. But the Coils look to be good quality and have lasted several tanks with little sign of fouling or gunking. Again there is a bit of an issue here with airflow, the surrounding air holes on the coil head don’t align with the coils directly in any direction. So no matter how you align the coil to the tank’s airflow you won’t hit the coils properly for best flavour either. We have found however that loosening the base to get the airflow to pass across both coils without the gap between them showing gets better flavour. Again it’s as if someone designed these coils with no knowledge of how to get optimal flavour. There are 6 airflow holes on the coil head but only 4 on the tank and only 2 can align at a time and never perpendicular to the coil/s, it’s just odd, why not have 4 in a pattern to match the tank? The sad part is the flavour isn’t bad, so you can imagine all the potential being wasted here.
Wicking is decent, but could be better. The wick ends seem to be too long and the coil head is over packed, on the RDTA it is important to have the wick just sit on the bottom of the deck in order to keep the juice flow holes unobstructed for best performance. This seems to have been ignored on these coils heads, and we have experienced a sign of choking when taking long pulls or chain vaping.
Filling is exactly the same as the RTA. T’s very easily accomplished with a standard dripper, just place the end in the channel and fill away. Having access to the coil while the tank is full makes for easy checks and coil changes. You can also purchase a larger top cap to increase the tank and get a 6ml juice capacity. We are reviewing the 3 ml version here which is a stealthy little number.
Airflow is airy, slightly restricted, maybe even a little wider than you will be used to (flavour chasers). Something we missed in our RDTA Review was the one of the two rubber rings that it comes with has 2 holes instead of 4 and we prefer it for getting the most flavour. We would still like to see a more traditional AFC with more adjustment options.
It’s a great looking well designed and built tank and has decent flavour with coils that seem to last longer than the norm. But it isn’t performing to it’s full potential. If you really don’t want to build coils it will do it for you, but there are other tanks out there that have more/better flavour. We really hope to see some improvements done to the replacement coil design, this one has the potential to be awesome if it just had a better coil with better airflow alignment. So close but so far.
What do you think is the best sub ohm tank? And what do you think is the best single build rta or rdta?
Hey Gabe,
Great questions, our favs constantly change as the market does. Our current favourite Sub-Ohm Tank is the Aspire Cleito (great flavour, easy to get, great capacity, and easy to find), a close second it Uwell Crown (still awesome, great all around tank).
Your second question has two ways it can go, for MTL (mouth to lung) the Kayfun Mini v3, or a Pico (the clone is just as good). And for Full Lung hits (single coil rtas) there are many great tanks, some of our favs include; Cthulhu v2 (v3 just about to release), and two we are about to review, the Avocado (22 or 24) and the Serpent Mini (the full size Serpent is also very popular). If you can deal with its shortcomings, the Theorem provides a great vape.
