Just around a year after the famed NarDA arrived here comes its brother, the NarTA. It has the same great dual airflow, single coil deck with a 3ml tank sitting below. The big question, is the flavour as good?
Aesthetically this is a beautiful tank, it has a similar silhouette to the slam cap for the NarDA on top (not interchangeable with the NarTA) and simple lines to the tank. The tank setup is very similar to the Hobo DrifTank (the modders are friends, makes sense), an o-ring above and below firmly holds the tank section in place and keeps the look clean and open. The build deck is very similar to the NarDA, some changes to the airfoil AFC posts have been done and there is of course some holes below to feed wick leads to the tank. The screw positions have been altered as well to make for an easier build experience. There screws feel larger but may be the same size. It’s a simple yet highly engineered design. There has been a lot of love rammed into this tank and it shows.
Flavour?, the big question with anything NarMods. It’s spectacular. Every possible nuance in your juices will come through. Like the NarDA it’s a airy vape, not crazy dense, but the flavour is the trade off here. It has so much of it. Anyone who has tried our setup won’t give it back, you have to almost rip it from their hands to get it back (if this isn’t a sign of a great tank, then what is?). Like the NarDA it has a signature quality to it, it’s the airflow design for sure. The pure magic in two streams of air hitting the same coil has many copying it. A little note: the included drip tip is a little hard and too wide of a bore for us, find yourself 4-6 mm bore for richer flavour. The good news is a lot of drip tips look right at home on this top cap design.
The AFC has the same downfall as its predecessor, it will whistle if you don’t get your coil position right, and even then it will still give you a little toot now and then. It’s adjustable and can intensify flavour when shut down, but we find fully open to be a nice restricted lung hit with less change of noise. It’s a trade off again, noise for flavour. And let’s be straight, it’s not a loud atty by any means even when setup wrong.
Building is simple. Nareg has given you some options here. There are 3 juice port holes in the bottom of the deck leading to the tank. This allows for two different coil angle options, basically a 30º or 45º angle on your coil hit by the airflow. We have tried both extensively and have settled on the less extreme of the two (30º). It seems to deliver better flavour and has a tendency to be less noisy, and wick a little better. But the choice is yours and this is some nice design thinking for sure. Many rock Claptons and we known Nareg likes a nice little 28/36 himself, but for us it’s a nice simple round wire build. A 2.5mm, 24 awg, 5 wrap, coming in at 0.5 Ohms run at 30-35W does it quite nicely. Wick diameter and length play a major roll in vape quality. You want to be careful to not over wick, nothing too tight or super fluffy. Set your wicks to just reach the tank or maybe a 1-2mm past that’s it. Also like most RDTAs, you want some space between your wick and the juice ports to allow for air to escape and aid in optimal wicking. Just comb out your wick leads and place them with a nice pair of curved tweezers and you should be good. There is a downside to the 3 juice port holes, this atty likes to vaped on an angle (like most RDTAs) and the open port traps some vapor into the tank section. It’s not a big deal, but doesn’t look great to us. However you go with your build, the nice big screws will trap almost anything and setting you coil is pretty easy. Line up your coil with the associated juice ports and raise it so the top of the coil is just above the AFC posts. This will reduce noise a lot and provide some dope ass flavour.
We have to say we have noticed some great conductivity and really clean operation from the NarTA. The coil fires instantly (not sure why, but it does). And savoury juices seem to go easier on our coils, maybe it’s the wicking action or the dual airflow, whatever it is, it adds to the overall experience and quality.
Juice capacity is 3ml, and with a build like a 0.5 Ohm it lasts a really good amount of time. Easy access to the tank is accomplished by using the open juice port you didn’t use for your build. Maybe 2-3 fills will get you through the day. There is a trick to filling the NarTA, it can suffer from a vacuum lock. We find using a unicorn bottle and squirting in little bursts releases the air and allows for a nice fill experience (if you don’t you can flood the deck and make a bit of a mess). Getting the top cap off is a struggle, we never thought we would complain about a top cap having tolerances that are too good, but that’s the case here. It’s tight, really tight, a wiggle from side to side as you pull will get it (have nice clean hands). And like the NarDA, placing it back seems to work best with the airflow holes perpendicular to the AFC and then twist into final position once it’s on. The nice thing about these insanely accurate tolerances is the very satisfying click into place you get every time you pop on the top.
Using the NarTA isn’t hard to get right, but it does like things done a particular way. Once you get it, expect a vape experience like no other, really one of the best vapes around. It comes down to the airiness of the vape, it has double the airflow of most, so it’s airier, but at the same time it has insanely accurate and detailed flavour. So much so, that some of your juices will taste different with this atty, in most cases, better. You have to live with the chance of a whistle too, the airflow ports are directly across from one and other so it’s going to happen. But the flavour, the design, the quality, the modder, they all add up to a seriously awesome atty that is unique and worth every penny. Sure they are so popular that then sell out in seconds, but Nareg has increased his production capabilities and your chances of scoring one are getting better every day. The NarTA is easily one or our favourite tanks/attys of all time, you could get just this and a decent mod and never buy another vape device again. There is not much more we can say, camp yourself out, get into the NarMods Facebook group for release details, and do what you have to get one (period).
The NarBA is launching any day now, this is a departure for NarMods, it’s another single coil RDTA, but with a single airflow design, larger juice ports, and a new deck style for Nareg. It’s very similar to the DrifTank, it also has a ramped airflow, but on a different angle and a different top cap/inner chamber. We hope to have one to review very soon. Our hopes are high…
Somehow I cannot agree with the review in this case. (normally i do).
Flavour is very good but easy to build? In comparison to which other tank? I think it’s fiddly with these screws.
I tried different coils. normal 0.4 SS-wire with 2 or 2,5mm diameter seemed to work the best for me.
If i place the coil a bit to high the airflow gets stuck and too low the flavour suffers. the coil needs to be placed very precisly in the middle.
but what annoys me the most is that even at 30-40 watts the top cap gets so damn hot.
In my opinion the SMM RTA as a single coil tank or the hobo driftank gives me a much more satisfying vape. I was somehow dissapointed. Let’s see if the Narba RDTA works better for me. It should be on it’s way to me.
