Bret Ohman Fels is a master when it comes to making mods and accessories out of Titanium. If you don’t know this is one hard metal to machine. But it’s much tougher than steel and looks a hell of a lot better too. Ohman Stuff (Bret’s Company) is probably best know for his killer drip tips (you need to own some if you don’t) and his accessories for the Billet Box. But long ago he made a little all-in-one mechanical mod with a hybrid RDA. He called it the Drip Stick and it has been reborn right in time for the Nic Salt craze.
The Drip Stick is a 14500 or AA battery mechanical tube mod. You may ask yourself is that even possible? Well with the right batteries and a high ohm build it is pure magic with a nice high nic juice. This mod barely fits in your hand and need you need to teach yourself a new method of firing it with the side of a finger or a knuckle. But you get the hang of it in mere minutes.
The fire button is firm with a super short throw, we wish there was just a bit more throw so you had a better indication of contact. We find ourselves listening for the coil to engage because of it. The Titanium finish is flawless and the machining is pretty perfect. We found the threads on ours needed a bit of a break-in period, but now they are quite smooth. This is a double ended barrel, it doesn’t matter which end you choose to be up or down. The button is easy to clean, held in with a simple c-clip that can be removed easily with patience and a pair of tweezers or other simple tools. The switch spring isn’t really rated for sub-ohm vaping and using high nic salts you don’t really want to go to low with your builds anyway. Bret has rated it for above 1 ohm and has kindly threaten folks who purchase it that he will come after them if they build to low (just a great modder that really cares and offers great service).
The Drip Stick comes with an integrated drip tip top cap in Ultem that is a nice snug fit that needs to be gently twisted into place thanks to the perfect o-ring tolerance. Some have complained about breakage or separation of the top cap, we think it is a heavy hand not taking the care with it, but it does have a rather brittle and delicate quality to it. The good news is there has already been accessories offered in the form of a matching Titanium 510 top cap as well as black, clear, and ultem (without the integrated tip). There is also a tank in the works that will be offered soon. Bret is a one man wonder show, getting his mods take time, he and his products are popular and he takes orders in the hundreds and then sets to work on them. So patience is needed, getting you product is usually a bit of a wait. The Drip Stick is a 16mm diameter mod so Origen Little RDAs and Tanks also look pretty awesome on it and you are given a 510 hybrid connection ring with the mod.
This is a super clean looking tiny little thing that packs all the power you need. The RDA is super simple and works great. Building is not too bad, a bit fiddly due to the lack of a 510 connection to mount the deck while building. So you fumble a bit till you find a technic that works for you. But with the higher gauge wire you will be using the softness helps make securing your build easier too. We have notice one big concern, if you leave juice in the atty well for too long it will weep down the connection pin/ultem insulator and into the battery tube. We learned the hard way by opening it up with a mess and a rather dirty and almost corrode looking firing button/pin. We were able to clean if up and take apart the switch, but we now make sure to vape it dry and do our best to remove the battery between use. This seems to be a bit of a flaw, the insulator/firing pin(screw) isn’t completely sealing the deck/juice well (at least on our unit). But by no means has this made us lose any love for this awesome little vaping machine.
Flavour is surprisingly good and intense. The draw is a nice MTL on the cusp of a restricted lung hit. There is no AFC and the airflow is almost completely silent. You would think this would be a good stealth vape but the vapor production is just too good making it hard to not leave a slight trail of vapor with every haul (not a bad thing). We find we get the best flavour production with the air inlet aligned with one of the post screws so it hits the coil from the side. You also want to make sure the coil is elevated enough to maximize exposure to the airflow, we like it with 3/4 of the coil sitting above the top of the post screw head. While some may think an AFC would be a nice to have, it really isn’t needed, the flow from the one air inlet is perfect.
Conductivity is instant and strong with little to no voltage loss thanks to the brass firing and button pins. Keeping them clean is a must but she hit consistently every time. Battery life is decent, we play a bit (don’t get mad Bret) between 0.7-1.2 ohms to get a nice warm vape with a battery lasting a good half day. With the strong juice you will be using you find you don’t hit this one as much which helps longevity for sure. The recommend battery are AW 14500 650 mAh that have an rating of 9A of 15C but they are really hard to find at the moment. We found some Efests (we don’t usually like them at all!) that are doing the trick and give a flush fit as long as you find them in flat head (also you may need to change out to the other fire pin included with the atty to get it perfect), they are rated at 9.75A(Pluse) or 6.5A(Continuous) and seem to work great with no trouble so far. Grab some here.
Juice capacity is sort of shocking for such a small little thing. You can easily fit 15+ drops of juice giving you plenty of beautiful hauls (10+). Really as long as you don’t go above the air inlet you can fill her right up with juice with no leaking or spit back to worry about. Just remember to vape the atty dry before you set it away for awhile.
The Drip Stick is a powerful little package. Really a more elegant approach to Nic Salt vaping than a pod system with all the benefits of controlling your coil and cotton. The flavour is more intense than any pod system will ever provide. Everything Bret sets out to do is always perfection and this is no different. It’s a specialized product for a specialized market, sure it’s not cheap and it’s hard to get (Facebook only, and currently second hand only, there are some for sale on the group though as we write this). Think of it as a vintage sports car, there is no crazy tech, but it’s built properly with the best materials and has its finicky little troubles now and then. But when it runs right there is nothing like it. This is a mod you will never part with. We can’t wait for the tank to get with it! Well done. Vape on!
