AmerPoint out of Russia is widely known for their success with their Nectar series of RDAs. Meet the Vector the follow up to the Nectar, it has a lot of new design thinking while still keeping that trademark lower blue tank section. Let’s get into it…
We are happy to have the vector as our first Russian product review, we are of Ukrainian descent so it gives us the warm fuzzies. AmerPoint has stepped up the flavour qualities of this new single coil RDA with some new thinking on the deck and airflow system. Outside it looks similar to the Nectar but with a slightly busier aesthetic thanks to the cooling sync and double tiered and curved top cap. The cultural influence is apparent and appreciated, we just wish for some cleaner lines. Inside as we mentioned is where it gets interesting. The Nectar was know for its centre coil position and bottom airflow. The Vector has some bottom and side airflow and places the coil closer to the edge of the atty. To combat the now more than open half of the deck there was some pretty great thinking done. Most modders would just include a SCR (single coil reducer) but what has been done instead is a chimney section that essentially reduces the chamber and creates a small area from AFC to Chimney to your mouth to create some pretty dense and flavourful vapor. It unique and original thinking. The other half of the rda has a fill port for the 1.4ml tank section, easy to access if you are using as a dripper. Like so many new attys lately, the vector is technically an RDTA/RTA but marketed as an RDA. The tank section is a nice thing to have when squonking, it basically just increases the time between sqonks and further guarantees nicely saturated wicks (win, win). Like all AmerPoint products it has those huge, beefy allen head screws and o-rings. The addition of to coil alignment channels really helps make building a breeze. It’s always great to see companies/modders pushing to do more and better.
Flavour is very good and should be based on the small distance the vapor has to travel to your mouth. We love this almost carburetor style airflow/chimney system, it shoots yummy vapor into your mouth. Don’t get us wrong it isn’t some new feeling or haul, it’s more that we appreciate how dialled in the design is and the flavour qualities it delivers.
The Vector is a MTL (mouth to lung) atty. Not really our thing usually. But the size of the airflow is right on the cusp of a really restricted lung hit that makes it pretty satisfying for anyone who is already a fan of restricted hits. The airflow is smooth and very quiet, there is adjustment done again in Amerpoints trademark cat eye fashion. Basically there is an oval bias surrounding the full airflow hole/aperture that allows you to restrict airflow gradually as you move the AFC away from centre alignment. We still can get over the chimney in an RDA, so simple but so smart.
Building is easy thanks to a simple dual post deck with big beefy screws and coil alignment channels to hold it in place and help you get it right. The Vector likes micro coils in our opinion. We are fans of spaced coils but here it seems more poignant to use a tight non spaced. Nothing over 2.5mm if you want as open a draw as you can get (still MTL). We like a 26 awg, 9 wrap, 2.5mm, coming in around 0.7 Ohms run at 20-25W. Warmish, tasty, dense vape. Coil position is key, don’t just rest your rod on the alignment channels. Align the top of your coil just below the top of the chimney air port, and you want to see the bottom of your coil aligning to the center of the AFC airflow port. Setting you wicks is very easy, we cut just past the deck and push them down into the tank. The Vector wick extremely well thanks to the short tank that keeps them super saturated.
Juice capacity is great for an RDA, 1.4 ml or about 30 drops goes a long way in an MTL atty. Grab the BF (bottom fed) model and it’s a treat filling the tank automatically with a squonk now and then. We are really starting to dig this tank to tank squonking trend.
The Vector seems to being overlooked a little in North America. Sure it looks similar to it’s predecessor, but it isn’t. The deck and airflow system is some fresh thinking that works really, really well. The flavour is top notch. We have very little bad to say, it doesn’t come with a drip tip (oh well). It’s a tad pricey, but built extremely well. If you are looking for an MTL atty that could bridge the gap between an RDTL this will perfect for you. Or if you are just curious about MTL this is the one. Check out AmerPoint, they as dope as ever…
