When two companies you love get together and do a colab it’s hard not to get excited. Two great juice companies, Coil Vapes making the one of the best Custards on the Planet(DisWon), and Mission XV coming off their recent success with the KRMA rda among a bunch of tasty juice sound like a match made in heaven to do something together. And we are stoked to report the effort has paid off! The Daywon RDA is yet another must have atty…
On the outside there is an understated elegance to the Daywon. Clean lines, one simple cyclops AFC vent, and beveled edges that give an industrial flair. Pair this 22mm dripper with the included deep beauty ring that butts up to the AFC and you get a silent statement of a beefy, yet powerful little flavour monster. Subtle design cues like the edges of the drip tip matching the same angles of the top cap don’t go missed here either. This is a tight package with not a single detail missed. One minor note, and it could be just our unit, we had a hell of a time getting the top cap to marry with the build deck the first couple of times (no matter how we tried to lubricate it). Basically the O-ring resistance is a little too dialled and needs to break-in before you have an easier time with it. Locking mechanisms are great, but aligning them can be a pain, and the Daywon is no different, there is little forgiveness and you need to get the hang of getting perfect alignment to get things together. With the beauty ring on, this becomes a little harder still, but it’s worth the trouble for the aesthetic. However the afc ring spins without a locking mechanism which moots the need for the top cap locking mechanism. These are small issues and shouldn’t change consideration for the Daywon in the slightest, but we need to report our experiences for you.
Let’s talk about what’s going on inside. The deck is reminiscent of the KRMA, similar airflow design with the AFC directing air down and in, then across the coil, this created that trademark whoosh to the inhale we all love. The really big difference is this is a single airflow inlet atty. The design has done a great job of pushing nice and simple coil clamps over to one side that are insulated with a nice colourful hit of Ultem. Inner hourglass shaped walls perfectly house your wick leads and help condense the chamber to maximize flavour and vapor production. A nice straight edge behind the clamp posts also make trimming you build leads easy and make the chance of a shot next to impossible. The airflow inlet protrudes quite far into the centre of the atty to really direct the airflow to the centre of your coil. Sure the design has elements of the KARMA, but at the same time it’s evolved, it’s great to see learning applied, and it has paid dividends.
What dividends may you ask? FLAVOUR and VAPOR! The intensity and crispness of the flavour produced by the Daywon is wonderful, a super satisfying vape that will turn almost everyone into a chain vapor if you are not careful. It’s just so damn tasty.
Airflow is obviously playing a big roll as always. And in this case it’s so dialled in and efficient. Perfect thick and voluminous clouds of incredible vapor. The full open draw is a perfect restricted lung hit. Super smooth, maybe not the quietest draw, but who cares when it tastes this good (by no means is it super loud either). Close the AFC down half way the the flavour explodes! No matter how much you close down the AFC however it’s still a serious of different restricted lung hits (sorry MTL lovers).
Building is a piece of cake. Using coils that have even legs off the coil (as opposed to staggered height) work best. The Daywon loves claptons. We are using a Titanium Fiber Cotton’s Clapton Coil (N80 27×2-37, 6 Wraps, 2.5mm ID by Twisted Messes) that ohms in at 0.4 and we like it right in around 34W. What a dream of a vape. Giving your wick leads a bit for curl to place them into the clamps goes a long way. Got to love the top down clamping power.
Juice capacity is decent but let’s face it, most will set this up for squonking. So not a big deal, and the top cap and airflow design make leaking near impossible unless you are super heavy handed with the squonk bottle. The squonk action is good and the pin is raised the proper amount to allow for some juice pooling to get you a little more juice saturation.
The Daywon is up there as one of the top RDAs of 2018, without a doubt. So when you look at the $80 price tag you need to think about this. The caliber of vape, the build quality, the included killer beauty ring, and shit just the flavour the flavour, the flavour. We think it’s work every penny, the design cues and aesthetics have a premium look that will add flair to and device you pop it on. It’s a little hard to get your hands on right now, but that will change soon, Mission is always committed to getting them in everyones hands like they did with the KRMA. It will hit stores soon or they will probably do their every Monday release on their site in the new year. Till then, plan to grab one!
