Not that the Derringer really needs improving but JayBo Designs has taken an already great RDA and simplified it. This Atty packs a big punch in a very small package!
The Derringer is a has an inner ring that helps keep your juice in the well and not on your mod, it is however a little complicated to align the inner and outer centre rings at times (once you have it, it stays in place though). These two rings also act as your adjustable air flow control (AFC). Well JayBo got rid of the inner ring all together in the Bambino. Instead it has a raised lip on the build deck that keeps juice in the well and also helps in creating a vortex effect when working in unison with the center ring air holes. This is supposed to stop spit back and it does it very well. The one compromise in getting rid of the inner ring is there is no AFC, there is only one air flow choice, but it has a nice woosh to it and feels like a Derringer with 2 air holes open. So it’s airy but not too much. With no AFC it does mean dual coil only.
We built micro coils (8 wrap, 26 ga, 2mm, 0.4 Ohm) for review purposes, and we find the flavour to rival the Derringer, it’s good. This is an intense little atty! The vapor chamber is of course very condensed with helps for sure. The air holes get slightly blocked by the little lip we talked about and it give this atty flavour similar to a bottom airflow design, but it is a little harsher than the Derringer just at the very end of the inhale. Nothing to complain about, but it’s there.
The size and mouth feel are awesome. It’s super light and very compact. It may look a little funny on a larger box mod, but looks great on smaller mods. The design changes also include a removable top cap that is great for getting a view of your build. It has an integrated drip trip that has a great, delicate mouth feel, it’s a nice change from some of the thicker drip tips out there. Wide enough bore for you to drip with ease and it will take a standard drip tip if you so choose.
It’s a very responsive atty. Feels instant and a little angry (in a good way), this is most likely due to the size and how close your coils are to your mouth. This is definitely for those days you are looking for a faster more intense vape. It’s sort of like a Derringer on crack. We haven’t tried super low ohm builds on this one, it’s sure to heat up quick and would need an drip tip thrown on for sure.
The build deck is super easy and surprisingly accessible for its size. We have really become a fan of the postless negative decks, securing your negatives are a piece of cake and makes for easier centred builds.
Overall if you are thinking about the Bambino but already have a Derringer and were wavering, you should pick one up. That is if you want a more intense easier to use version of an already stellar atty. The Bambino goes into the most own category for sure!
