VooPoo seems to have popped up out of nowhere with their own chip and a pretty serious looking dual 18650 mod. The name of the company might be a little odd as is the name of the mod but the oddness stops there really (maybe the choice in non-matching side panels is odd too). For the money the Drag is a seriously good deal.
The design aesthetic isn’t the prettiest but not the ugliest either. There are tons of little design details that give it a somewhat high end flair. There is a weight and solid hand feel to this mod that rivals many much more expensive mods. The buttons are perfect, great material and feel. The battery door has solid magnets and the internals are clean and the battery sled works great. Really there are only a couple of subjective issues, the battery door has a tiny bit of play if you push it around, the edges on the mod could be smoother or more rounded for comfort, and you won’t get a 24-25mm attys on it without overhang. We wish that both side panels were the carbon fiber look but you can’t get everything. The fit and finish is very good, much better than normal for this price point (honestly as good as many high end mods costing quadruple). The finish thus far hasn’t a mark on it, it looks to be incredibly durable. There isn’t much to knock really, it will come down to if you dig the aesthetic or not.
VooPoo’s GENE Chipset is pretty kick ass. Super accurate and rather efficient. Tons of features to keep both wattage and TC vapers really happy. Curves, Customs TCR values, Memory Banks, and a great smart feature that gives you a suggested wattage or power setting every time you put on a new coil/build. The menu structure is a little different than most mods, but you get used to it pretty quickly. Basically to get into the menus hold the up and down adjustment buttons instead of the standard multiple fire button click. Everything is there and works great. We would love to see a bit more detail/stats on the display screen but that is a small detail and all the vitals are there (except over 120W you lose the voltage meter for a ‘super’ text callout, not great). It’s an impressive chipset from a new company.
Battery life is great, we easily get about 24hrs of vaping in around the 30-40W range. The battery meter also appears to be very accurate and the mod seems to cut off batteries in around the 3.4V range (nice and safe).
The VooPoo Drag is a great mod that looks and feels much more premium than it costs, it’s solid in the hand and the chipset performs extremely well (Phill Busardo has even blessed it). Really you can’t go wrong, at well under $100, it’s a steal. Aesthetically it’s more subdued in the real world than it photographs (for example, the DRAG lettering on the battery door is only visible in certain angles and is subtle even when caught by light), it gets compliments. Grab one, even if it’s a second mod, you’ll dig the Drag.
