With Squonking still fully raging in popularity it’s great to see many more affordable options coming to market. For a long time now tiny little box mech squonkers in either Delrin or 3D print have been hard to get or let’s be honest, ridiculously priced ($200+ in most cases). Stentorian (an arm of Wotofo) has hit pay dirt with their little RAM BF mod. Thanks to BuyBest for sending us samples for review.

The RAM is about the size of most other simple squonk mods. But note that it’s width is designed to accommodate a 22mm atty, you might get away with a 24 but there will be a very slight overhang. The Resin finish has a velvet like hand feel that is very pleasant to the touch. The rounded edges also help give a comfortable grip. There are a total of 6 different colour options (Purple, Blue, Black, Red, Green, & Brown) to choose from making it near impossible to not find an option that speaks to you. Door is pretty good, better than some mods we own that are quadruple the price. The brass or gold accents will of course not be for everyone and the button does a great job of collecting finger prints. The twist to lock feature on the the button is a nice touch and works very well. This is a nicely size, weight and finish. Extra care has been taken to make sure each mod we received at least had buttery smooth surfaces and near perfect tolerances. We did have a magnet on one of the doors come loose that need a little help with some higher quality instant glue. But this is common on tons of gear so we can’t really fault it (it happens). The Gold coin or logo medallion is a little odd, but it’s on the bottom of the mod so you don’t really see it. The Button throw is nice and there is little to no play on the button (the design has a plastic washer internally that keeps everything nicely aligned).

Inside is nice an efficient. The space for the battery is perfect, making it not too hard or too lose to get in and out (this can be a problem on many mods of this style). There is a center tab that keeps the battery and the 510 solid. This is one of the best design elements of the RAM. By re-enforceing the 510 contact post it allows for a very solid connection with the button. A lot of these squonkers rely on the integrity of the 510 alone and over time play causes voltage drop and/or a weaker hit due to poor button contact. While the RAM is a mechanical it uses a wire to finish the connection to the button rather than the metal ribbon technic that many of this style choose. While Stentorian has done a good job of using a large gauge wire, it does make cleaning this mod a bit more of a challenge (it doesn’t look like the internals are removable, and the medallion looks to be holding in the positive battery contact).

The included 3 Squonk bottles are a nice touch. However it’s very odd that the extra two in the box don’t have juice tubes, just the bottles and lids (come on!). They aren’t the softest plastic but will do. We strongly suggest an upgrade to softer silicon style bottles and we have linked at the bottle of the review to a great inexpensive option that fits and looks great.

The 510 looks to be proprietary and is spring loaded. It has a nice some internal positive pin that should connect nicely any atty. We haven’t experienced and trouble or leaking. The Gold or Brass plating is carried completely throughout the internals making for great and instant connections. The re-reforcement of that center tab keeps the 510 rock steady. And all attys we have tried sit nice and flush on the mod.

We aren’t sure where the name came from but maybe it has to do with ramming the volts, lol. The conductivity of the RAM is very good with near instant response on button press. Maybe the wire vs metal ribbon method is paying off. It almost behaves as if it has a Mosfit. There is nothing to fault here.

Like we start, in the world of crazy popularity for squonk mods and this box style the RAM might just be one of the more under appreciated contenders. It’s super accessible and affordable so much so that you can enjoy it without worrying over a drop, a door break, or whatever might stress you out. We are pleasantly surprised by just how good the RAM is. If you are looking for your first mech squonk to play around with, this is the one.
