First off we would like to thank BuyBest for sending us this atty for review and secondly we would like to apologize for the lack of reviews as of late. We just moved back to Canada after living in Nicaragua for the last two years and it took some time to get settled. But now we are fired up and ready to get back at it! We have a ton of new stuff in the cue and will be adding our thoughts as frequently as we can.
So let’s talk OBS and their second version of the Engine, the aptly named Engine II.
It’s sleeker and slightly more attractive than the last. Gone is the structural frame within the tank section that made the first look a little busy. A lot of the design is unchanged. It is still a top airflow RTA that directs the air down an internal chamber that hits the coil from below. However the airflow is now directed much better to hit the coil. The thread mechanism is also improved and is much easier to attach the deck to the bottom of the tank section. The real news is the new post/deck design. It is unique to say the least. Your coils are suspended upside down above the airflow channels. This makes for an unimpeded coil but makes the build a bit of a challenge, or really a bit awkward. Materials and fit & finish are impressive for the price point and we are constantly impressed with what OBS delivers for such great value.
Flavour is good, almost boarding on great. This atty is boarding on more of an RDTA than an RTA, the pressure created by the design keeps wicks extremely saturated which leads to the flavour production. Let’s face it this is a haul your ass off atty, and sure we are all crazy for MTL pod systems at the moment but we shouldn’t discount the joy of having a good cloudy haul once and awhile. But for this segment the flavour is very good if you take this into account.
Airflow is a tad loud and a bit turbulent. The AFC has 3 slots and we like to shut it down to about 1/3 to get the flavour we are craving. Like we said, the Engine II can give you some serious satisfaction with a ton of vapor that’s warm and delicious.
Building as mentioned is awkward or maybe just different based on this new fangled design. The included coils are great quality and burn nice and even after install. The look to be 3mm Nichrome Claptons and together they came in around 0.2 ohms. Run around 50-60W its a nice just warm vape. We took the approach of securing one leg on each coil and then using a coil rod and some fumbling around to secure the other. Once in the post screws do a great job of securing the coil leads and moving your coil into position is rather easy. Wicking is a simple task, get just enough cotton into the juice ports to block them, don’t over stuff here. We have checked on our build once or twice and been impressed with the saturation level every time.
Juice Capacity at 5ml is impressive for what looks to be a small area within the tank. This isn’t a small RTA by any means. While it’s 24mm at the back it looks to taper out to 25-26mm. But Juice lasts longer than you would think for a cloud chucker like this. Filling through the easy pop-up fill port works a charm and is relatively mess free. We still love this design overall for its sheer leak proof nature.
It’s hard to say where the Engine II fits in the market these days, everywhere we look it’s all about pod systems, nic salts, and making devices as small as possible. But we think it’s still nice to have a good haul on lower nic juice now and again and just blow a little cloudage. OBS really has made some serious improvements to this new version and it shouldn’t be ignored. We are going to take a good haul on ours right now.
