The Evolve RDA, one clean and dope looking little atty is the result of a collaboration between VODistro & Vape Organics. The clean lines and use of ultem make it right at home on a high end mod, it’ll look great on anything.
Simplicity is always a great design principle to follow, and the Evolve has really taken this to heart. It’s made of fine materials and has some key features that sets it apart from the competition. The first is a threaded top cap that locks down your AFC setting and the second is a rather unique dual post design. Think of it like a velocity style but instead of the 4 post holes be stacked they are side by side. This post design does a couple of things, keeps the post height low, pushes the coils out to be closer to the airflow, leaves a nice space in the centre of the deck for vapor to collect and whoosh to your palate, makes it easy to drip, and makes centred builds really easy. It’s an innovative, original design and the design team needs to be commended. The overall look of the atty is just so clean, there are however some dope laser etchings on the bottom of the atty (V.O and one of the cleanest most intricate American Flags we have ever seen). As good as this atty looks with the ultem chuff cap (it also makes inspecting your build and dripping a very easy task), as flavourchasers the flavour is much better with the stainless 510 top cap, it still looks good, sort of like a much cleaner Flawless Tugboat RDA.
Flavour is surprisingly good, it has to be the fact the coils are place so close to the AFC. The centre cavity created by the post design makes this an airy draw no matter how much you shut down the AFC. We find with the AFC shut down to 1/3 and a medium boar drip tip (JMK Gaper S) the flavour is on point. The included drip tip is nice, stays cool, easy to drip down, but it’s too wide boar for us. Just use a 3rd party tip that comes off easily enough so you can drip down the barrel (10-12 drops max at a time).
Vapor production is great, it can be as much as you need it to be, with the AFC fully open and the chuff cap installed this atty can easily satisfy any cloudchaser. So it does seem to be an atty for both styles of vaping. The centre barrel uses a tab system similar to a Velocity RDA which is great to stop you barrel from spinning and it also auto aligns your AFC with your coils, but if you are like us and like to shutdown your AFC it does make your airflow align on a slight angle with your coils (straight on would be better). We have noticed that the direction in which you shutdown the AFC makes a difference when it comes to coil alignment, we found to the right gave better alignment (just pay attention to it).
Airflow is smooth and pretty quite, the lockdown feature is a really nice thing to have. If you can keep you top cap on and drip only down the barrel, it’s a very clean atty. We have a pretty low build in it and it stays pretty cool for the most part.
The build we are rocking is a 6 wrap, 24awg, spaced, dual 3mm, coming in at 0.25 Ohms and run at about 55W. It’s a warm flavourful vape. Building and wicking is pretty easy once you get the hang of the angles post holes. One thing to note, the post holes are sharp, if you clamp down on your wire too much it will clip them (even 24awg). The good news is it clamps very well and doesn’t need a ton of pressure. We found clipping you wires down to a shorter length and curving the wire out in either direction towards the posts helps quite a bit to get them seated into the post holes. The design does an outstanding job of centering your coils. Align the height of you coils to centre in the AFC holes and you’re good to go to flavour town.
Juice capacity is on the low side, which is surprising for how open the centre section is based on the design. Over dripping will effect performance greatly so you need to pay attention. 10-12 drops from a larger dropper is about all it will take, you do get a good number of hits off it though.
The VODistro Evolve is a great atty. It looks awesome, performs very well, reasonably priced, and made pretty well. It’s worth the a buy for sure, we just think it could still be improved with slightly thicker materials, smoother top cap threads, no tab system to allow for better AFC to coil alignment (when shut down), and then it would be even better. Either way you should check out the Evolve RDA.
