Tiberian Vapor Co. practically came out of nowhere at the end of 2016 with some exciting product offerings. The Mulciber RDA is one of the most exciting, looking like a condensed Sat22 genesis tank of old, a very popular tank back in the day. It looks great on just about any mod, but is it any good?
The Mulciber is a tiny little RDA. The funny thing is the vapor chamber has a lot more room than you would think. Easily fitting a 3.5mm ID coil into its velocity style deck. The stepped aesthetic is unique. The sharp angles give it an aggressive look. There is the chimney that helps keep the top cap height down, but it makes it hard to find that perfect drip tip to fit with the overall look. We wish they had included one, but the fact they haven’t makes this a bit of an aesthetic challenge. With a standard tip the height of the chimney along with the tip gets a little tall. We have tried condensed tips and have a had trouble with heat. It’s a sticky point. Add that the AFC rings are super thin (feel cheap), and like to come off when you are trying to get the whole top cap off becomes a bit of an annoyance. Our unit also has some rust or corrosion forming at the seam of the chimney which doesn’t help matters either. Here’s the thing, the design is cool, the materials or the way they are finished is not. O-ring tolerances are pretty perfect and the included AFC rings are a great idea (giving lots of airflow options). We know the atty is China made and that’s fine, it just seems like a couple of details have been sacrificed. Thicker AFC rings and a shorter chimney would really help things. The cost isn’t crazy, but feels over priced for the finished quality.
Flavour is good. Slightly on the airy side and this is most likely due to the larger than needed vapor chamber. We are amazed at just how spacious it is inside the atty. Even with the inner step the coil sits quite far from the AFC inlets, this is definitely the cause of less intense flavour. Many of the attys this year are really maximizing the inner chamber to get a condensed, intensely flavoured vape. It feels like tolerances and space could be more dialled in, basically less room inside the atty. That said it is good flavour, there are subtle nuances you will experience and taste from your juice. We just wish for more intensity.
Airflow, there are a ton of options thanks to a dual or single slotted AFC rings. We like the dual as it seems to envelope the coil better, giving a better vape. With the single slotted ring you can get down to almost an MTL vape with it quite closed down. Still the dual does it for us, mind you we close it down to only 1/3 open. It’s still a nice restricted lung hit and it delivers the most intense flavour in our opinion. Airflow is smooth and reasonably quiet.
Building is easy, it has a velocity style deck setup that is pushed off to one side. There are 4 post holes but with the deck to one side if you want a dual setup you will need to stack your coils. Not really our thing. But a nice 3.5mm ID, spaced, 6 wrap, 24 awg build coming in at 0.6 ohms and run at 29-33W is a nice vape. Wicking the Mulciber is really easy and the fat wick leads from a 3.5mm coil fit nicely and help condense the chamber further. Set you wick leads to just sit on the deck and out of the way of the BF pin/inlet. One negative and something we don’t understand was the choice to go with flathead grub screws, they work fine, you just need your jeweller screwdriver set (Tiberian Vape Co. isn’t alone, there are quite a few attys with flatheads these days…)
Juice capacity in drip mode might annoy you, the deck is very shallow. We didn’t bother with dripping and went straight for the included BF pin to get squonking. As a squonker it’s great, responsive and worry/leak free. A nice easy squeeze and pause, and then release, saturates your wicks nicely. There is a real industrial flair to the Mulciber that’s attractive. If it was just a little chunkier it would be so much better.
As a first run from a brand new company the Mulciber is a hell of great first crack. The design is unique and the performance is pretty good, it really only falls down on the finished quality. We would love to see a more condensed vapor chamber too. But if the Mulciber speaks to you aesthetically go ahead and grab one, its still a great vape. We look forward to seeing what Mike and team do next, it’s sure to be great.
This looks nearly exactly like the Armor 1.0 RDA….The only thing different is the deck, with it’s velocity style posts and it being made exclusively for single coil mode. I’m surprised you didn’t mention the Armor RDA or at least compare the two.
Hey James,
I did a little in the line about how most attys these days condense their inner chambers for flavour. Really they aren’t alike at all. The Armor has a much better AFC design that contributes the much more intense flavour it has. They just don’t compare, they are in different leagues.
