We are always looking for new and improved ways to vape and this latest bit of buzz has us excited and very curious! Everyone has had the thought that there must be a better way to vape, coils and temp control are great but we still have to deal with coils gunking up with carbon and making our vape taste like shit.
Well along comes GUO with the Altus Tank and what they are calling the CVU (Center Vaping Unit). It looks to be a coil that has been coated in a material that GUO claims is non toxic that won’t oxidize under 1832 F (so we are good, sure none of you are over 600F) possibly making this the answer we have been looking for or at least a step in the right direction. The CVU is supposed to last forever if used within its limits (25-75W and no more that 480F in Temp Mode), it acts like a 0.5 Ohm coil but like titanium and stainless it will fluctuate with heat 0.4-0.6 Ohms (they report). GUO has yet to release the TCR (Temp Coefficient Resistance) to allow for accurate Temp Control vaping, but are planning to shortly. In the video interview listed below they dry burn a coil (which you aren’t supposed to do) and it seems that the CVU heats top down (very consistently) which is interesting and we are curious as to how this will effect flavour. But the more concerning issue is there is a considerable ramp up which may be a deal breaker for many of us. If you have ever used a clapton coil on a mod with not enough power, you know how annoying this can be.
The biggest issue is understanding the materials used and if they will have any adverse effects on our health. The fact the company makes claims that it’s non toxic isn’t enough for us, they need to explain the production process and exact materials or at the very least have some third party tests done. The Gold plated branding on the CVU seems unnecessary to us and has to have some sort of effect on the vapor it produces.
All this said we are still stoked to see how this develops. GUO is claiming the flavour is “Pure and Clean” and that is enough to keep us interested. The Altus tank is available for purchase right now at Origin Vape, at $120 USD it’s a bit on the expensive side and a bit of a gamble.
