Want a fun little project that will produce a rather nice looking, super flavourful RTA for next to nothing? Well the OrKayed RTA made from clone parts from Fasttech might be just what you’re looking for.
Take the build deck of an Orchid (which is a dual coil design with more airflow than a Kayfun) and marry it to the much better juice flow and chimney design of the Kayfun v4 to get a hybrid that will surprise you (add a bell cap to make it look dope).
This might be a slightly dated atty design nowadays but we thought it would be a fun. It gives you a rather nice looking flavourful atty without a lot of trouble or cost. And it even has some features we see in the latest attys hitting the market. Features like, access to build deck with a full tank, condensed vapor chamber, and a juice well that sits around the wicks and feeds to them. She puts out damn good flavour, although it is more of a sipping atty, you will find the wicking has it’s limits if you haul on it too long (the juice channels are small and out of date). All the parts are good quality clones and you benefit from their popularity (there were so many made in their heyday). And if anything, it’s quite a nice high end looking final product too.
Putting all these parts together is super simple, there are no modifications to make, you aren’t going to need to pull out a fill or a drill, simply order them, clean them, put them together. Building on the Orchid deck is nice and simple thanks to the 4 post or T-post style. The only gripe is the size and quality of the screw heads are not so good, so watch how much tension/torque you give them or they will strip quick.
The build you need is a dual 26 ga, 2.5 mm, 5 wrap open coil, it should come in around 0.25-0.3 Ohms and should be run around 50-55W. Wicking is really easy, cut the wicks to the shape of the inner deck and place a couple hairs in the juice channels (hardly anything). She won’t leak and with the Kayfun v4 Vapor chamber/chimney the wicks are fed well with juice. It sound sort of scary running that much power threw a design as dated as this but it works, its a warm vape and you need to go easy on the hauls due to temp and wicking abilities, but you can get a decent direct lung inhale. One little note, drip tips need to be wide bore enough to clear the chimney at the top of the bell cap (the two listed work great).
Filling can be slightly tedious as it has to be done through the tiny juice ports on the Kayfun chimney, the good news is a fine tipped bottle or syringe works great. Make sure to on fill no more that 2/3s of the tank so the vacuum in the tank functions well and gives you good juice flow to your coils (this is key, over filling will lead to some nasty dry hits). It’s doesn’t hold a ton of juice (2-2.5mls) but it lasts a couple hours. The small juice channels make this more of an atty for 70/30 or less VG ratio juices.
Airflow comes in one size and style, but it’s a good one! It’s a nice semi-restricted draw that should make most of us pretty happy. The flavour is very good, with all the popularity and resurgence of the Genesis style attys this is a great atty to try that costs a lot less and gives you flavour, vapor, and inhale style that rivals that of the greatest and latest.
$12 is a steal for an atty that performs as well as this! It will look good on just about anything and there is a big bonus, because you are running it at low volts, the wicks and coils last a long time, making this a rather low maintenance atty too! For the price the shortcomings really don’t matter, if you have wondered what this hybrid would taste like or your just bored and want a fun little thing to do, go ahead you won’t regret it!
